“When you come to the edge of all that you know,
you must believe one of two things:
either there will be ground to stand on,
or you will be given wings to fly.
– O.R. Melling
I am the mother of a son who is an adult and is also an addict. I know each of our journeys are unique; I also know they are more alike than different. Please understand right away I am not linked professionally to drug abuse or treatment. I have seldom found a place or a voice just for parents that wasn't blaming or shaming. As a society, we are just now starting the conversation that maybe drug addiction is not simply a moral failure. My hope is that families will become more willing to tell their stories without fear of judgement. When we are silenced by shame then we are left floundering, wondering where to turn or who to talk with, and what to do. My wish is that you find encouragement, healing, and the peace that comes from knowing you are not alone.
By no means is this effort intended to bring you all the answers. However, through all our internet research into rehabs, sober living houses, in-patient and out-patient treatment, detox options etc., we've never come upon any guidance specifically for parents of adult addicts. So I hope you will accept this website as a beginning rather than a means to an end, a place for conversations to sustain and help us parents/grandparents/ siblings/loved ones as we struggle to re-orient ourselves to vastly altered dreams for our families.
I hope you will leave a comment and join in the conversation!

when we no longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work,
and when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real journey."
